It's important to get your car serviced regularly to keep your vehicle running smoothly and it can save you a lot of money in the long run. Here's what is usually included in a car service.
Oil Service
This will consist of an oil and filter change, all under bonnet levels checked, visual inspection of the tyres, suspension and under body of the vehicle. The wheels are NOT removed on this service. Reset service light on dash and update service book or digitally.
Annual Service
This will consist of an oil and filter change and pollen filter change, all under bonnet levels checked, visual inspection of the tyres, suspension and under body of the vehicle. The wheels will be removed and full inspection of the brakes. A full code scan and reset. Reset service light on dash and update service book or digitally.
Air Filter Change
Most manufacturers such as VW group recommend the air filter to be changed every 60,000 miles but this is way too long, we recommend every 20,000 miles.
Brake Fluid Service
This should be carried out after the vehicle is 3 years old, then every 2 years thereafter.
Air Conditioning Servicing
Most manufacturers recommend this to be done every 2 years to keep your air con in good working order.
Timing Belt Change
If your vehicle is belt driven rather than chain driven it needs to be replaced as per manufacturer's recommendation. VW group are every 5 years regardless of mileage.
Automatic Gearbox Service
Often overlooked by owners and garages, the oil and filter needs to be replaced at certain intervals. VW group gearboxes such as DSG, S Tronic and CVT boxes need to be done at 40,000 miles regardless of age. Some DSG boxes are lifetime fill. Mercedes are every 3 years or 36,000 miles (every 3 rd service). BMW are normally lifetime fill but we would recommend changing the oil at about 60,000 to 80,000 miles.
Fuel Filter Change
Most manufacturers recommend the diesel fuel filters to be changed every 30,000 to 40,000 miles. Most petrol fuel filters are in tanks and are not serviceable, however if it is serviceable, replace every 30,000 to 40,000 miles.
Haldex Service for VW Group
Change the oil and either clean the filter or replace it every 3 years regardless of mileage, also change the transfer box oil at the same time.
Coolant Flush
We recommend a coolant flush every 5 years, the coolant can become more acidic over time and lose its rust-inhibiting properties, causing corrosion. This will also help keep your heating system in good working order.
